A year we can be proud of
Project Janszoon has had a big year with two significant bird releases and a successful goat control programme, marking the achievement of key targets for reintroducing native species back into the park. This is possible because of the hard work done by Janszoon and its partners over the last 12 years to transform the park’s previously degraded ecosystems.
Our work to control invasive predators and weeds, and restore forest and coastal habitats, has made it possible for the Abel Tasman National park to support breeding populations of kaka, whio, pateke and other key species.
We close the year knowing that our final translocations of whio and kākā mark the end of a long road to seeing these birds living wild and free in the forest and rivers of our much loved park. Our thanks to everyone who has supported this effort, your contribution has been invaluable.
We wish you a very happy and relaxing holiday season, and hope you can visit the park and enjoy its beauty over the summer.
